Exhibition: The
Grant Bradley Gallery, Bristol UK. Recommended. This gallery is exceptional;
the atmosphere
is friendly and casual, you don't have to be standing up to view the 'art',
you can sit in a comfortable sofa, take
your time, drink some coffee...
Work I have done since last year's show ( Blue) has been entirely black
and white and I have also taken the pressure out of the canvas, experimenting
with deep 3D reliefs. In questioning the construct and accepted illusion
of a 'painting' I have started to explore the physical reality and possibilities
of the canvas itself.
My personal expression has been in learning how to use action without
thought-construct, learning to use direct expression of self, and along
the way, the creation of textures suitable for the projection of the imagination.
Rorschach (pronounced raw shock) was a historic psychologist who started
using inkblot tests in order to analyse the perceptions of his subjects
while they reported what they saw. In this year's exhibition I reference
these 'Rorschach' inkblots, and celebrate how we can use this kind of
image to observe ourselves and actually participate in what we are seeing
and see some of our own process laid out before us.
It's fun to see how we are reflecting ourselves back to ourselves in the
way we see things in the world. In this way the world acts somewhat like
a mirror, as part of ourselves with our experiences here to support us,
and show us who we are.
Please use this material for self observation, and enjoy.
